New Area Code Takes Effect For Western New York Region New 624 Area Code for All or Parts of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara Counties

New 624 Area Code for All or Parts of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara Counties

NEW AREA CODE for WNY Region

ALBANY — The New York State Department of Public Service (Department) announced today that beginning September 11, 2023,  customers in the 716-area code region requesting new mobile or landline telephone service, an additional line, or a move in the location of their service, may be assigned a number in the new 624-area code.  The creation of the new area code will provide additional much-needed phone numbers for residents and businesses in the existing 716-area code region for years to come.

As a result of a strong demand for telecommunication services in Western New York, the New York State Public Service Commission in October 2022 approved a new area code for the area served by 716 using an area code overlay. An overlay occurs when two or more area codes serve the same geographical area.

With the addition of the new area code, the region is now well-positioned to accommodate continued economic growth and growing consumer demand for telephone service. The new 624-area code will
be superimposed over the same geographical area served by the existing 716-area code. The 716-area code serves communities including, but not limited to, Buffalo, Jamestown, Cheektowaga, Tonawanda, Niagara Falls, and West Seneca as well as all or portions of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara counties. The area code overlay requires consumers to continue to dial 10 digits for local calls (area code + 7-
digit telephone number) in the 716/624 area or 1+10 digits for calls to other area code regions.

Customers in the 716-area code have already been completing local calls by dialing 10 digits since the July 16, 2022, national implementation of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Important facts that consumers and businesses need to know about the 624-area code overlay are:

• Current telephone numbers, including current area code, will not change;
• All calls within and between 716/624 must be dialed with 10 digits;
• Consumers will continue to dial 1+ area code + telephone number for all calls to other area codes;
• What is a local call will continue to remain a local call;
• The price of a call, and the price of other telephone services, will not change due to the new overlay area code;
• Calls to reach 911 Emergency Service will remain three digits;
• If 211, 311, 411, 511, 611, 711 or 811 services are currently available in the community, consumers will still dial these codes with just three digits; and

• Numbers in the 624-area code will not be available for assignment until remaining numbers in the 716-area code are exhausted. A date has not been determined when the remaining 716-area code numbers will be exhausted.

Customers should ensure that all services, automatic dialing equipment, applications, software, or other types of equipment recognize the new 624-area code as a valid area code. Some examples include life-safety systems, fax machines, Internet dial-up numbers, alarm and security systems, gates, speed dialers, mobile phone contact lists, call forwarding settings, voicemail services, and similar functions.

Business stationery, advertising materials, personal checks, and personal or pet ID tags should be updated as necessary to ensure each includes the 624-area code. All automatically dialed calls within
the 716/624 area must be programmed to dial using 10-digits and the digit prefix “1” must be included for all calls to other area codes.

IMPORTANT WATER BILL MESSAGE

Important Water Bill Message

Water bills are expected to be mailed on Wednesday, August 23rd.

You will notice that there is a message on the current water bill stating that there will be a $100.00 surcharge for any balances not paid by 4:00 p.m. on the Monday, September 25th.  Payments must be received or postmarked by this date.

This surcharge is for unpaid balances that are turned over to the Niagara County Tax Department every year on October 1st.  This is not new surcharge.  If you pull your prior year July water bill you will see the same message.  This only happens once a year so you may have forgotten the message being on previous water bills.

On 09/26/2023 a 10% penalty is assessed (gross total with penalty). If you do not pay by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25th there will be a $100.00 surcharge on top of the 10% penalty.

Payments are accepted in person at Town Hall, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., by mail, or by placing in the locked dropbox located behind Town Hall.  You can also pay online at www.pendletonny.us.

Hometown Hero Banner Program

The Pendleton Veterans' Association and the Town Clerk's Office are happy to announce the launching of the Town of Pendleton Hometown Hero Banner Program

Many towns and villages throughout the state have taken the opportunity to thank the servicemen and servicewomen who served in the US Armed Forces by displaying  banners with their  photos.  These banners are purchased by their families or friends and will be prominently displayed at the Pendleton Town Hall campus.

Requirements

All service men and women must meet these requirements:

1.       Have resided or owned a business within the town
limits of Pendleton, New York presently or at some point in their lifetime.

2.      Did serve or are serving our country in the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Marines or Navy, active or reserves.

3.      Must be serving currently, or be an honorably discharged veteran, MIA, or died in the line of duty.

Banner Information

The banners are 24” by 36”, made from heavy  duty, weather resistant material and will include  the following factual  information:  Name and  photo of the  serviceman/woman; branch of service; era of  service and sponsor’s  names.  A banner is  currently on display at the  Town Hall.  Each  banner will cost the  sponsor, family or friend a  total of $150.  This includes the banner and  hardware for hanging.  The banner is the property of the family and can be  returned to them if requested.

Banner Photo

You will supply the photo of the veteran in uniform that you wish to appear  on the banner.  Pictures  will be scanned and  returned to you once the  banner is approved.   Please attach a self- addressed envelope to return the photo to you.   Also, please make sure to sign the photo release on  the application so we can  use the photo for publicity  purposes if  necessary.

Sponsorship/Donations

For individuals or  businesses who would like  to be a sponsor  without purchasing a banner, monetary donations will be used for  expenses beyond the cost of the banners and hardware.  Anyone may become a sponsor by  making a personal  monetary donation.  This  would be any business or  individual who would like  to make a general  donation towards the  Banner Program.  Banner  Application Forms are  available at Town Hall.

Please mail completed  application, picture, and  check made payable to  Pendleton Veterans’ Association (include the Veterans name in memo area of check) to:
